A Season of Light, Connection, and Community Care

Supporting others during the holiday season is just as important as receiving support, maybe even more so. This time of year reminds us how much we all rely on one another, often in ways we don’t even realize until we pause long enough to feel it.
If you’re from the New Haven area, chances are the Fantasy of Lights has been part of your winter story. Many of us grew up piling into the car, passing around hot chocolate, and inching slowly through Lighthouse Point as the lights danced around us. It’s one of those rare traditions that feels just as magical at five years old as it does at fifty. No matter how old you are, the moment those lights appear, something inside you softens.
That’s why Parents’ Foundation is so deeply honored to sponsor Fantasy of Lights this year.
For us, this event isn’t just a local attraction; it’s a reminder of joy, familiarity, and community. It’s one of the few holiday traditions our residents and staff look forward to together, year after year. In fact, it’s part of what inspired us to brighten our own home during the winter months. We wanted to create that same sense of wonder and warmth right here in downtown New Haven.
Giving back matters because support doesn’t happen in isolation; it’s a village effort. Whether you’re offering help, asking for help, or simply showing up, you’re part of a shared network of care. And no matter what your role, your story, or your needs, you are not alone. This community carries each of us through the season, especially when things feel heavy.
As Tahnesha has mentioned in previous posts, the holidays and colder months, while beautiful, can also be incredibly challenging. The days grow shorter, routines get tougher, and many of us start and end our workdays in the dark. It’s easy to feel our emotions slipping into that same darkness if we’re not careful.
So, we encourage you to light up this season in whatever way you can. Hold onto the connection. Lean into traditions that ground you. Create new ones if needed. And if you’re local to Connecticut, we hope you’ll drive through Fantasy of Lights and feel the warmth it brings, the same warmth we hope to pass along at Parents’ Foundation, today and every day.
