The Hand You’re Dealt: Join Us for The Great Give

At Parents’ Foundation for Transitional Living, we know that life doesn’t always deal a fair hand. For many of the individuals we serve, the journey has included instability, hospitalizations, and moments of deep uncertainty. But with the right support, even a difficult hand can lead to new opportunities and real progress.

We’re excited to participate in The Great Give on May 7–8 with our theme, “The Hand You’re Dealt.” This theme was brought to life thanks to our amazing intern from Southern Connecticut State University, whose fresh ideas and creativity helped us develop a fun and unique approach to this year’s campaign. It’s so inspiring to see new perspectives from those who support us most.

The Great Give is an annual 36-hour online giving event hosted by the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, designed to connect donors with nonprofits across the region and strengthen local impact. It’s more than just a fundraiser; it’s a moment where the community comes together to uplift organizations and the individuals they serve.

A key part of that impact is making sure the voices of our residents are heard. While loved ones, providers, and staff all play an important role in supporting mental health journeys, there is nothing more powerful than hearing directly from those with lived experience. Their voices remind us why this work matters and help reduce stigma by sharing honest, personal perspectives.

When asked, “One thing I wish people knew about mental health is…” one resident shared:

“That every day it’s like a rattle in our brain, but challenging yourself to change your ways is very important.”

Another shared:

“My mental health isn’t visible, but it affects my daily life. The mind is the center of your being.”

And a powerful reminder from our community:

“Mental health conditions affect everyone differently.”

These voices highlight the importance of understanding, compassion, and individualized support. No two journeys are the same, and every person deserves the opportunity to grow, heal, and move forward, no matter the hand they’ve been dealt.

This year, your support will help us:

  • Expand access to our residential programs

  • Provide individualized support tailored to each resident’s needs

  • Create more opportunities for growth, independence, and connection

Every donation, large or small, helps amplify these voices and create meaningful change.

Join us May 7–8 for The Great Give and help turn the hand life has dealt into real impact and real progress.
